The New Orleans Saints have signed veteran cornerback Chris Owens, head coach Sean Payton confirmed Thursday.
The Saints are banged up at cornerback, as Keenan Lewis is nursing a knee injury and rookie Damian Swann missed the last two games due to a lingering concussion issue.
Owens was selected by the Atlanta Falcons in the third round of the 2009 NFL Draft and spent the first four seasons of his career with the team. He split 2013 between the Cleveland Browns and Miami Dolphins, and played in 11 games for the Kansas City Chiefs last season.
In 83 career games, the 28-year-old has 173 tackles and three interceptions.
