Browns fire general manager Ray Farmer

Cleveland Browns general manager Ray Farmer was relieved of his duties prior to the team's loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday.
The person who replaces Farmer will be the Browns' sixth general manager in eight years. Executive vice president Sashi Brown is a candidate to take over football operations, according to Vic Carrucci of the Buffalo News.
Farmer, promoted to GM in 2014, presided over two drafts in which the Browns had multiple first-round picks. Most notably, the team took disappointing cornerback Justin Gilbert and troubled quarterback Johnny Manziel in 2014.
The Browns accumulated 12 picks in 2015, but struggled to find any impact rookies, though time will tell how productive those players become.
"I know the realities of this situation," Farmer told Josina Anderson of ESPN following his reported release. "Life gives circumstances for a reason, a season, or a lifetime. This is not a lifetime, so I'm certain it will be OK."
Farmer's legacy with the Browns will be linked to Manziel, as well as the four-game suspension levied against Farmer after he was caught sending impermissible text messages to the sidelines last season.
The Browns have also fired head coach Mike Pettine.
