Alfred Morris wants to spend entire career with Redskins

Washington Redskins running back Alfred Morris came into the league in 2012 with a specific goal in mind: to play his entire career for only one franchise.

Now Morris is an impending free agent, and that goal will be tested.

"When I first came into the league, no matter what team I went to, I just wanted to do my whole career with the same team," Morris said, according to John Keim of ESPN. "That’s still my goal. I would love to return, but a lot goes into that. I haven't thought about that. You all keep bringing it up, but we’ll see what happens."

It's hard for any player, let alone a running back, whose position is increasingly devalued, to stay with one team throughout their time in the NFL.

The odds are stacked against Morris even returning to Washington, having finished the season with a career-low 751 rushing yards and only one rushing touchdown.

The team has two intriguing, younger options in the backfield in Chris Thompson and Matt Jones, and could be reluctant to spend big money on the running back position with quarterback Kirk Cousins also headed for a large payday.

Morris has regressed since a breakout rookie season in 2012, with his carries, rushing yards, and yards per attempt all slipping year by year.
