Bruce Irvin suggests he'd accept discount to stay with Seahawks

The majority of the Seattle Seahawks' vaunted defense are entering the middle of their primes, and linebacker Bruce Irvin is willing to sacrifice for the common good.

Irvin is slated to become an unrestricted free agent, and is coming off a strong campaign where he recorded 38 tackles, 5.5. sacks, and a forced fumble.

He is expected to receive plenty of offers, but said he'd take $3 million to $5 million less than the competition's proposals to remain with his current club.

"I was asked that," Irvin said to ESPN's Sheil Kapadia. "Pete (Carroll) and John (Schneider) asked me that when I met with them today. If it came to that, I would definitely come back. $3, $4 million? $3, $4, $5 million? I would definitely come back because I'm established here.

"These are my brothers. I honestly can't even imagine myself playing with anybody else, being in a different meeting room, listening to different pregame speeches. It's just crazy to me. I would definitely come back if they matched or if it was a little less. I would definitely come back to Seattle."

Part of a 2012 draft class that built the nucleus of the Seahawks' four consecutive playoff appearances, Irvin surely holds sentimental value toward his current team.

Irvin previously reiterated in June that he wanted to stay with the Seahawks, after stating in May that he wanted to play for his hometown Atlanta Falcons.
