John Elway on Super Bowl 50 win: 'This one's for Pat'
John Elway led the Denver Broncos to three Super Bowl appearances without a victory, during a span in which the NFC won the Big Game 13 consecutive times.
When the team finally broke through with a 31-24 victory over the Green Bay Packers in Super Bowl XXXII, Broncos owner Pat Bowlen, upon being handed the Super Bowl trophy, happily exclaimed, "This one's for John!" in reference to his future Hall of Fame quarterback.
Elway returned the favor Sunday following the Broncos' 24-10 victory over the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl 50, proclaiming, "This one's for Pat!" after receiving the trophy.
The 71-year-old Bowlen, unfortunately, was not in attendance in Santa Clara, Calif., for the game. Bowlen has Alzheimer's and is not well enough to make a trip to California.
