Report: Patriots release Montee Ball following arrest
The New England Patriots have released Montee Ball after the running back was arrested and charged following a Friday incident, a source told Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio.
Ball was charged with disorderly conduct and misdemeanor battery for allegedly striking his girlfriend at a Madison, Wis., hotel Friday evening. The running back was released from jail Monday and is expected to return to court on March 1.
New England signed Ball to its practice squad in December, and he didn't take any snaps for the club during the 2015 season.
Ball had a prolific collegiate career at Wisconsin, but it never translated to professional success. The 25-year-old was selected in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft by the Denver Broncos but was released in September.
