Lions president: Ford family won't sell team, has succession plan
The Detroit Lions aren't for sale.
Team president Rod Wood refuted rumors that the Ford family, which has owned the team since 1963, will sell the team during an interview on WMGC-FM on Thursday.
Martha Ford, 90, took over as primary owner when her husband William Clay Ford died in 2014.
"I'm very involved in the plans to succeed Mrs. Ford within the family and the ownership, and beyond that I'd rather leave all that to those who are in the room as opposed to talk about it outside the room," Wood said, according to The Detroit Free Press. "But I can assure the fans and the community that the Ford family's committed to owning the Lions long term."
It's unclear whom will succeed Martha as owner, but it appears the team will stay in the family.
