Report: Panthers, Norman begin negotiations for long-term deal
The Carolina Panthers have begun negotiations with cornerback Josh Norman for a new long-term contract, a source told David Newton of ESPN.
The initial talks started on Thursday at the NFL Scouting Combine, but Newton noted that the two parties were not close in terms of salary.
Norman said he'd understand if the Panthers were forced to use the franchise tag on him - which is projected to be $13.8 million - but that he wants to agree on a deal that will keep him in Carolina for the foreseeable future.
"I really hope that I can be here, because I've been here my whole life,'' said Norman. "I don't want to change that. But hey, you never know how things will go.''
The 28-year-old had a breakout season in 2015, making the first Pro Bowl of his career and was named to the first-team All-Pro team.
