The Green Bay Packers have expressed interest in acquiring running back Matt Forte, a source told Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Forte spent the first eight seasons of his career with the Packers' NFC North foes, the Chicago Bears, but was informed in February that he would not be re-signed.

The Packers are one of the logical landing spots for Forte, who at 30 years old, is more suited to a complementary role in an offense in order to preserve his health.

Green Bay is famous for its lack of activity in free agency, but the team has indicated it will be more willing to spend money this offseason.

The Packers' running game was a disappointment last season, especially Eddie Lacy, who struggled to remain productive, so it seems likely they'll use that money to bolster the running back position.

With backup James Starks heading for free agency, Forte could provide a veteran presence in the Packers' backfield.

Forte rushed for 898 yards and four touchdowns in 2015.
