The Miami Dolphins have restructured the contract of newly acquired cornerback Byron Maxwell, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Maxwell signed a six-year, $63-million contract with the Philadelphia Eagles under the Chip Kelly regime a year ago, before being traded along with Kiko Alonso to the Dolphins early this week.

The veteran corner was set to earn $18.5 million over the next two seasons, but will now make $17 million. As a compromise, $13.5 million of that is guaranteed as opposed to an original guaranteed amount of $11.5 million.

Maxwell is set to replace the recently departed Brent Grimes at starting cornerback in Miami next season.
