The Minnesota Vikings re-signed running back Matt Asiata, the team confirmed in a statement Wednesday.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Asiata rushed for 112 yards on 29 carries, adding 19 receptions for 132 yards.
The 28-year-old served as Adrian Peterson's backup for the 2015 season.
When Peterson was suspended during the 2014 campaign, Asiata showed he was a capable running back, with 570 yards on 164 carries.
Peterson is the league's premier running back at this juncture, and it's likely Asiata will serve as his backup for the foreseeable future.
