Chiefs sign former discus thrower Tautvydas Kieras to play linebacker

John Rieger / USA TODAY Sports

The Kansas City Chiefs are exploring all angles to improve their defense.

Kansas City signed Lithuanian discus thrower Tautvydas Kieras to play linebacker, in spite of the fact that he's never played a snap at any level.

Kieras starred in the discus throw at Mississippi State, while also competing in shot put.

During Mississippi State's pro day, Kieras recorded an unofficial 4.69 40-yard dash time, evidently drawing the attention of the Chiefs' scouting personnel.

It'll be compelling to see how Kieras blends in with a linebacker group that includes Pro Bowlers Justin Houston, Tamba Hali, and Derrick Johnson.
