Patrik Laine, too, is in with a successful NHL debut.
The No. 2 overall draft pick with the Winnipeg Jets provided a taste of his goal-scoring prowess in his first NHL start, caressing a pass in the offensive zone and hesitating just enough to open a shooting lane before slinging his first goal past Carolina Hurricanes netminder Cam Ward.
Laine's contribution went on to spark a comeback. He assisted on Mathieu Perreault's game-tying goal, allowing Blake Wheeler and Mark Scheifele to end it in overtime.
