Blues' Alexander Steen: Takes maintenance day

Steen (undisclosed) took Wednesday off for maintenance, but coach Ken Hitchcock indicated that he's hopeful the veteran winger will play against the Sharks on Thursday.

Analysis:

Maintenance days are generally given to players who need extra rest or are dealing with minor ailments, and Steen's case doesn't appear to be an exception. The 32-year-old has been streaky this season as he no longer has the support of two-way forwards David Backes and Troy Brouwer; 10 points in 17 games is OK, but Steen's minus-8 rating leaves a lot to be desired.
