Flyers select defenseman Adam Ginning 50th overall
The Philadelphia Flyers added Swedish blue-liner Adam Ginning with the 50th overall pick Saturday at the 2018 NHL Entry Draft.
Adam Ginning

Nationality: Swedish

Ginning split his 2017-18 between Linkoping's under-20 team and the head club in the SHL, and jumped to No. 5 in Central Scouting's final rankings among all European skaters.
Ginning doesn't play the same game as some other Swedish defenders in the draft such as Rasmus Dahlin or Adam Boqvist, instead operating in a more traditional, stay-at-home manner. The 18-year-old has NHL size and plays a physical game, but is likely a few years away from making an impact with the Flyers - which is hardly uncommon for a young defender seeking to adapt to the North American game.
"Ginning is more known for his defensive game than his offensive one. He has excellent size, and uses it to his advantage. If a forward comes down his side of the ice with his head down, he can throw a big body check. He reads the play well and uses a long, active stick to cut down on passing lanes. Ginning is not afraid to get his body in front of a shot either. He is especially effective on the penalty kill, with strong positioning." - Ben Kerr, Last Word on Hockey
