Wagner, 21, is in the midst of his first NHL season and has recorded seven points in 24 games for the Kings.
Karlsson hasn't been suspended in his NHL career, and a decision should come swiftly as the Sharks play their final game before the Christmas break Sunday evening versus the Arizona Coyotes.
In his first season with San Jose, Karlsson has notched 26 points in 37 games.
