The Kingston Frontenacs will select Shane Wright with the first overall pick in the 2019 OHL Priority Selection on Saturday, the team announced Friday.

Hockey Canada recently granted Wright "Exceptional Player Status," deeming him eligible to suit up in the OHL as a 15-year-old. He's only the fifth player to ever earn the distinction, joining John Tavares, Aaron Ekblad, Connor McDavid, and Sean Day.

The 6-foot, 179-pound center was recently named the GTHL Minor Midget Player of the Year. He recorded 150 points in 72 regular-season games before leading the Don Mills Flyers to the OHL Cup championship, in which he earned MVP honors with 18 points in seven games.

Kingston finished last in the OHL in 2018-19, posting a 14-52-1-1 record.
