Hurricanes draft netminder Pyotr Kochetkov with No. 36 pick

The Carolina Hurricanes selected Pyotr Kochetkov with the 36th overall pick of the 2019 NHL Draft.

Kochetkov entered the draft as the No. 1-ranked European goalie by NHL Central Scouting.

After being passed over in consecutive drafts in 2017 and 2018, Kochetkov put his name on the radar with a strong season in the second-best professional league in Russia. He has excellent size and uses his pads well to cover the bottom of the net while maintaining strong position.

Kochetkov also improved his draft stock with an incredible performance for Russia at the 2019 World Junior Championship. The 19-year-old posted a 4-1 record with a 1.45 goals-against average and a .953 save percentage en route to the bronze medal.
