The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed free-agent winger Brandon Tanev to a six-year contract, the team announced on Monday.
The deal carries an average annual value of $3.5 million.
Tanev spent the first four seasons of his career with the Winnipeg Jets. He set career highs with 14 goals, 15 assists, and 29 points through 80 games during the 2018-19 campaign.
The powerful winger is best known for his penalty-killing abilities, as he averaged 2:08 minutes on that unit and scored two shorthanded goals. His 278 hits ranked third in the NHL, while his 81 blocked shots ranked third among all forwards.
Tanev adds stability and depth to Pittsburgh's forward group. The team dealt Phil Kessel to the Arizona Coyotes on Sunday.
