Maple Leafs, Marner agree to 6-year, $65.36M deal
Mitch Marner and the Toronto Maple Leafs have found common ground.
The Leafs agreed to a six-year contract with the restricted free-agent forward that carries an average annual value of $10.893 million, the club announced Friday night.
Here's the apparent breakdown:
The deal buys the club one RFA year, three RFA arbitration years, and two UFA years, according to CapFriendly.
Toronto now has approximately $40.5 million in cap hits tied up between Marner, Auston Matthews, John Tavares, and William Nylander. It totals about half of the upcoming season's cap ceiling of $81.5 million.
Dreger reported earlier this week that the Leafs made offers to Marner of seven and eight years at an $11-million AAV in June.
The 22-year-old winger was one of a slew of big-name RFAs without contracts heading into the 2019-20 campaign, including Mikko Rantanen, Brock Boeser, Brayden Point, Matthew Tkachuk, Patrik Laine, and Kyle Connor, all of whom remain unsigned.
Marner ranked fourth in the NHL in assists (68) and 11th in points (94) in 2018-19.
