Maple Leafs place Petan, Marincin on waivers
The Toronto Maple Leafs have placed forward Nic Petan and defenseman Martin Marincin on waivers, according to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman.
Petan has played only five games for the Maple Leafs this season and was recalled for a one-game stint earlier this week. It was reported in October that Toronto was looking to trade the 24-year-old forward.
Toronto acquired Petan from the Winnipeg Jets at last season's trade deadline. He's recorded a single assist in his NHL appearances in 2019-20.
Marincin has been a fill-in on the Leafs' blue line, suiting up for seven games this year without recording a point. The 27-year-old averaged 11:51 in ice time during those contests.
With Petan and Marincin on the waiver wire, the Maple Leafs still need to free up one more roster spot for the impending return of winger Zach Hyman, who could make his season debut this weekend. Dmytro Timashov, Jason Spezza, and Nick Shore are among the candidates to be pulled from the regular rotation, according to Sportsnet's Chris Johnston.
