Marner to miss Sunday's game after injuring ankle vs. Flyers
Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Mike Babcock announced forward Mitch Marner will not play Sunday against the Chicago Blackhawks after exiting Saturday's contest versus the Philadelphia Flyers with an ankle injury, according to Sportsnet's Luke Fox.
Marner got tangled up with Flyers forward Carsen Twarynski during a faceoff in the second period and appeared to be in discomfort as he struggled to the bench.
The 22-year-old joined the second power-play unit after the fall and went immediately to the locker room following his 35-second shift. He then emerged during a TV timeout to test out his skating ability but returned to the room and was declared out for the game.
Marner entered Saturday's action ranked second on the team with 18 points in 17 games this season. He enjoyed a career-best 94-point campaign in 2018-19 and was rewarded with a six-year, $65.35-million deal in September.
The 6-foot winger has played in all 82 regular-season games in each of the last two campaigns and hasn't missed a contest since his rookie year.
