Red Wings' Perlini avoids serious injury after taking skate to face
Detroit Red Wings forward Brendan Perlini left Tuesday's 3-2 loss against the Buffalo Sabres and didn't return after enduring a scary moment on the ice.
Perlini was helped off by the trainer after Sabres defenseman Henri Jokiharju's skate caught him in the face during the first period.
Perlini suffered a deep nose laceration and received stitches from the team's doctors, the Red Wings announced shortly thereafter.
After the game, Perlini said he was doing OK, according to Dana Wakiji of the team's official website.
"He was scared at first that it could've clipped his eye," Detroit head coach Jeff Blashill told FOX Sports Detroit's Trevor Thompson, according to WXYZ's Brad Galli.
The 23-year-old has spent most of this season with the Red Wings, who acquired him from the Chicago Blackhawks in late October.
