Reichel impressed in his draft year, finishing eighth on Berlin in points as 17-year-old competing against grown men. He also had a strong showing for Germany at the world juniors, recording three goals and a pair of assists in five games.
The nephew of 11-year NHL veteran and two-time 40-goal scorer Robert Reichel, Lukas is one of the most disciplined players in the draft. He recorded no penalty minutes in 2019-20 and just four in 2018-19. He isn't overly physical, but he competes hard for loose pucks, using his speed and stick to his advantage.
Reichel is very talented offensively. Neither his shot nor his vision is considered a standout trait, but he has soft hands and can beat defenders one-on-one. He also has great short-area quickness and instincts, which usually translates well to the NHL.
What they're saying
"Too much creativity and offensive upside to worry about some teachable details defensively," wrote Sportsnet's Sam Cosentino.
