Carolina Hurricanes goaltender Petr Mrazek underwent surgery on his right thumb, team president and general manager Don Waddell announced Wednesday.
A timeline for his return will be determined within the coming days.
Mrazek has missed the last two games after being hurt early in Saturday's win over the Dallas Stars.
The 28-year-old has gone 2-1-0 and stopped 63 of 66 shots over four contests this season.
James Reimer started both games in Mrazek's absence, earning a pair of victories and improving to 4-0-0 on the campaign.
Mrazek is in his third season with the Hurricanes after a brief stint with the Philadelphia Flyers. He also spent parts of six campaigns with the Detroit Red Wings.
