Sharks' Labanc to undergo shoulder surgery
San Jose Sharks winger Kevin Labanc will undergo surgery to repair a dislocated shoulder, head coach Bob Boughner announced Wednesday, according to NBC Sports' Sheng Peng.
The timeline for Labanc's procedure is approximately three months, per Peng. He's scheduled to have the surgery early next week, according to Curtis Pashelka of the Mercury News.
San Jose will, for now, place Labanc on injured reserve instead of long-term injured reserve, Peng adds.
Labanc suffered the injury during Saturday's contest against the Dallas Stars after being hit by defenseman Jani Hakanpaa, per Pashelka.
The 26-year-old has struggled so far this campaign, putting up just six points in 21 games. He was a healthy scratch for the Sharks earlier this month.
Labanc is currently in the second season of a four-year, $18.9-million deal. He has 65 goals and 118 assists in 360 career NHL games.
