NHL Friday player props: 2 shot totals to target
There are just two games on Friday's schedule. While I don't see much value on the board in terms of sides and totals, it's a much different story with player props.
Let's break down a couple of my favorite shot totals.
John Carlson over 2.5 shots on goal (-105)
Carlson's shot production has seen a nice uptick of late. He has piled up 35 shots on goal (63 total attempts) over the last 10 games for an average of 3.5.
He has registered at least three shots on goal in seven of those 10 games, good for a 70% hit rate. Carlson finds himself in a sneaky-good matchup to continue his shooting success.
The Blues have been giving up a lot of shots. They've conceded 351 shots to defenseman this season, which ties them with the Devils for most in the NHL. On a per-game basis, only the Senators, Blue Jackets, and Coyotes have allowed more to defenders.
With the Capitals missing some key weaponry up front - Nicklas Backstrom and T.J. Oshie are likely out - Carlson could be relied upon to help pick up the slack offensively.
Teuvo Teravainen over 2.5 shots on goal (+100)
Teravainen is quietly enjoying a really strong season. He has done his best work on home soil, averaging 3.5 shots on goal per game and going over the number (2.5) 10 times in 13 appearances.
By comparison, Teravainen is averaging just 2.3 shots on goal on the road. That's no coincidence; he has fewer shot attempts in 18 away games than he does in just 13 at home.
With Friday's game being played in Carolina, the Hurricanes will have last change and the ability to get their top players - such as Teravainen - in advantageous matchups away from the Calgary Flames' top players.
Teravainen also stands to benefit from a strong scheduling spot, as the Hurricanes haven't played in six days. They're fully rested, healthy, and ready to go. The Flames, meanwhile, are playing on the road for the third time in four nights.
