Alex Ovechkin scored his 50th goal of the season on Wednesday night against the Vegas Golden Knights, marking the ninth time he's reached the milestone in his career.
The Washington Capitals star is now tied with Wayne Gretzky and Mike Bossy for the most 50-goal seasons in NHL history.
Ovechkin reached the mark with his second goal of the contest. With his first goal, he set the record for the most goals in a single season by a player aged 36 or older in NHL history - passing Teemu Selanne's mark set in 2006-07.
The 36-year-old is now up to 780 career goals. He trails Gordie Howe by 21 and Gretzky by 114 on the all-time goals list.
