Penguins' Rakell unable to return after hit by Rangers' Lindgren
Pittsburgh Penguins forward Rickard Rakell was unable to return after taking a questionable hit from New York Rangers defenseman Ryan Lindgren in the first period of Game 1 on Tuesday night.
Lindgren appeared to catch Rakell up high along the boards. Rakell had to be helped off the ice.
Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan didn't have an update on Rakell's status postgame and told reporters that the winger was being evaluated, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Mike DeFabo.
Lindgren initially received a five-minute major on the play. However, it was reviewed and downgraded to a two-minute penalty for roughing, according to team beat reporter Michelle Crechiolo.
Acquired by the Penguins at the trade deadline, Rakell made an instant impact in Pittsburgh, logging 13 points in 19 regular-season games.
The Penguins ended up winning the contest 4-3 in triple overtime.
