Watch: Devils score twice in 7 seconds late in 3rd to pry win from Oilers
The New Jersey Devils stunned the Edmonton Oilers with a dramatic third-period surge Thursday night.
Ryan Graves and Jesper Bratt scored seven seconds apart with less than four minutes remaining in the final frame to secure a 4-3 victory, the club's fifth win in a row.
New Jersey trailed 3-1 after 40 minutes, but Miles Wood cut the deficit in half with a quick tally. The Devils continued to press and Graves eventually solved Stuart Skinner with a weak shot that barely trickled over the line.
Bratt then exploded through the Oilers' defense off the neutral-zone faceoff and put the Devils ahead for good.
The two late goals were the fastest scored in franchise history. The previous mark was eight seconds, accomplished by John Madden and Patrik Elias in 2001.
Bratt also established a franchise record for longest point streak to begin a season at 11 games. The burgeoning star now sits fourth in league scoring with 17 points.
The Devils' win streak appeared to be in jeopardy when starting goalie Mackenzie Blackwood left the game with an apparent injury midway through the second period. Vitek Vanecek allowed Edmonton's third goal immediately after entering the game but ultimately stopped 18 of 19 shots.
New Jersey's thrilling win Thursday placed the club atop the Metropolitan Division with an 8-3-0 record.
