The Islanders have used a compliance buyout on DiPietro, who had eight years remaining on his 15-year, $67.5 million contract, NHL.com reports.
DiPietro cleared unconditional waivers and will now become an unrestricted free agent on Friday. Under the terms of the buyout, the Islanders will pay DiPietro $1.5 million a year for the next 16 years.
