Perreault is one of the most offensively tantalizing players in this year's draft. He put up monster numbers playing on the USNTDP's top line with fellow top-10 talents Will Smith and Ryan Leonard and set the single-season scoring record with 132 points. The benchmark was previously held by 2016 first overall pick Auston Matthews and closely contested by 2019 top prospect Jack Hughes.
"It's pretty crazy. It's not something I thought I was going to be able to do," Perreault said in April, per Daily Faceoff's Steven Ellis. "You look up to those guys, so it's a really special moment."
Perreault, the son of former longtime NHLer Yanic and brother of Anaheim Ducks prospect Jacob, faces limitations in size and speed but nothing serious enough to mitigate his offensive instincts or hold him back from becoming an impact player at the highest level.
What they're saying
"He's a clever-beyond-belief, maneuverable facilitator and playmaker who plays the game with a light touch and a heady spatial awareness of not only where his teammates are but where he is in the flow of play (and relative to defenders)," wrote The Athletic's Scott Wheeler.
"Gabe doesn't have his dad's defensive acumen or his brother's build, but he's an intuitive, highly intelligent player who sees the play develop offensively at a more advanced level than his two family members did/do - and than almost anybody in the draft does. He's got some of the quickest hands in the draft. He problem-solves his way out of trouble as well as anyone in this age group."
