Report: Bruins, Bolts, Leafs interested in Caps' Edmundson
Three Atlantic Division foes have their sights set on Washington Capitals defenseman Joel Edmundson.
The Boston Bruins, Tampa Bay Lightning, and Toronto Maple Leafs are "circling" in pursuit of the veteran blue-liner, reports TSN's Darren Dreger.
Edmundson is a pending unrestricted free agent with a $1.75-million cap hit, according to CapFriendly. That figure was originally $3.5 million, but the Montreal Canadiens retained 50% of his salary when they traded him to Washington for a pair of picks last July.
The 30-year-old can submit a 10-team no-trade list.
Edmundson helped the St. Louis Blues defeat the Bruins to win the Stanley Cup in 2018-19. The 6-foot-5, 221-pound rearguard, who shoots left, is now playing on the Capitals' third pairing. He's in his ninth NHL season.
Toronto, Tampa Bay, and Boston have reportedly been eyeing defensemen in the lead-up to Friday's trade deadline. The Bruins and Lightning showed interest in Noah Hanifin before the Vegas Golden Knights acquired him from the Calgary Flames on Wednesday night.
The Maple Leafs have been linked to numerous players at the position, including Chris Tanev and Nikita Zadorov (before the Flames shipped out both separately), along with Matt Dumba. Toronto reunited with blue-liner Ilya Lyubushkin last week, reeling him in for two draft picks from the Anaheim Ducks.
