The San Jose Sharks drafted defenseman Sam Dickinson 11th overall in the 2024 NHL Draft.

Sam Dickinson

Dickinson shined on a stacked London Knights roster this past season. He finished fourth in scoring among all OHL defenders and ranked second among draft-eligible rearguards. Dickinson's campaign was strong enough to have him end up seventh on Central Scouting's final rankings behind three blue-liners who entered the draft with considerable buzz.

Despite drawing less attention than some of his peers, Dickinson projects to be an impactful pro. He has NHL-ready size and skating, along with offensive instincts that should translate at the highest level. Dickinson will likely need a few years to continue developing before making his mark, but many scouts project a bright future ahead of him.

What they're saying

"He's a 6-foot-3 defenseman who is one of the best skaters in the draft." The Athletic's Corey Pronman wrote. "He has an explosive, fluid stride that easily picks up power. He explodes up ice and can change gears very quickly. He breaks up plays and closes gaps easily due to his skating and creates so much possession time for his team. Dickinson is very skilled at handling the puck and often creates chances due to the combo of his skating and skill. He also has a hard slap shot from the point and projects to score a good number of goals in the NHL."
