Blackhawks add quartet of veterans, including Brossoit, Maroon

The Chicago Blackhawks bolstered their two significant signings from earlier in the day by adding four more experienced players as depth.

The Blackhawks signed backup goaltender Laurent Brossoit to a two-year contract at $3.3 million per season, the club announced Monday. Chicago inked forward Craig Smith to a one-year, $1-million pact.

The club also brought in defenseman Alec Martinez on a one-year, $4-million agreement and inked forward Pat Maroon to a one-year, $1.3-million deal.

Brossoit was one of the best No. 2 netminders in the NHL this past season. The 31-year-old went 15-5-2 with a .927 save percentage over 22 games with the Winnipeg Jets in 2023-24, his 10th campaign.

Smith collected 11 goals and nine assists over 75 games with the Dallas Stars this past season, his 13th in the NHL.

Maroon chipped in four goals and 12 assists in 51 games, 49 of which he played with the Minnesota Wild. They traded the 36-year-old to the Boston Bruins. He played two regular-season contests with the Bruins and 13 more in the playoffs. Maroon won the Stanley Cup three years in a row, doing so with the St. Louis Blues in 2019 and then with the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2020 and 2021.

Martinez played four full seasons and 10 games of another with the Vegas Golden Knights after spending parts of his first 10 campaigns with the Los Angeles Kings. He helped the Kings win the Cup in 2012 and 2014 and then did the same with the Golden Knights in 2023.
