Avalanche sign Kylington to 1-year contract
The Colorado Avalanche inked defenseman Oliver Kylington to a one-year deal, the club announced Monday.
The pact is worth $1.05 million, reports Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman.
Kylington was an unrestricted free agent.
The former Calgary Flames blue-liner was a finalist for the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy last season. The award recognizes perseverance and dedication to hockey. He missed half of the campaign and all of the 2022-23 season for personal reasons.
Kylington played parts of six campaigns with the Flames, who drafted him 60th overall in 2015. The Swede produced three goals and five assists while averaging 17:15 of ice time over 33 games in 2023-24.
He authored a subpar 49.51 expected goals for percentage last season but posted a favorable 50.48 scoring chances for percentage, according to Natural Stat Trick.
Kylington enjoyed a career year in 2021-22. He collected 31 points, including nine goals, across 73 contests.
The Avalanche have approximately $2.07 million in projected cap space with 22 active players, per PuckPedia. Andrew Cogliano retired and joined Colorado's front office in June, while Zach Parise is a UFA but said in February that it was his final season. The Avalanche have no RFAs left to sign.
Colorado revamped its depth on defense this offseason, signing ex-Tampa Bay Lightning rearguard Calvin de Haan and former Ottawa Senators blue-liner Erik Brannstrom to one-year contracts at the beginning of July.
