Blackhawks' Brossoit sidelined 5-7 weeks after knee surgery

Chicago Blackhawks goaltender Laurent Brossoit is expected to be sidelined for five-to-seven weeks after undergoing meniscus surgery on his right knee, the team announced Wednesday.

Under his current timeline, Brossoit could return to action during the Blackhawks' preseason slate or miss the first few games of the regular season.

Brossoit signed a two-year deal at a $3.3-million cap hit with Chicago as an unrestricted free agent this summer.

The 31-year-old was outstanding for the Winnipeg Jets while serving as Connor Hellebuyck's backup last campaign, logging a .927 save percentage, 2.00 goals against average, and a 15-5-2 record across 23 appearances.

Brossoit won the Stanley Cup as a member of the Vegas Golden Knights in 2023. He owns a .911 save percentage and a 64-46-13 record in 140 showings over 10 seasons split between the Jets, Knights, and Edmonton Oilers.

The British Columbia native is expected to form a tandem with Petr Mrazek upon his return. Mrazek performed admirably with the struggling Blackhawks last season, logging a .908 clip in 56 games.
