Wild sign Wallstedt to 2-year extension
The Minnesota Wild inked goaltender Jesper Wallstedt to a two-year contract extension with an average annual value of $2.2 million, the club announced Monday.
The new pact begins in 2025-26. The netminder is in the final year of an entry-level deal that carries a $925,000 cap hit, per PuckPedia.
Wallstedt will turn 22 on Nov. 14. He played his first three games for the Wild last season. Wallstedt started all three contests and won two of them but posted a .897 save percentage after allowing seven goals on 34 shots in his debut.
Despite his rocky introduction to the NHL, the Swede remains one of the league's top goaltending prospects. He went 22-19-4 with a .910 save percentage over 45 contests with Minnesota's AHL affiliate, the Iowa Wild, in 2023-24.
Minnesota has three goalies on its roster. Filip Gustavsson played 45 games for the NHL squad last season, going 20-17-5 with an .899 save percentage, while Marc-Andre Fleury is skating in his final campaign after suiting up for 40 contests while authoring a mark of .895 in 2023-24.
The Wild drafted Wallstedt 20th overall in 2021.
