Panthers, head coach Maurice agree to multi-year extension
The Florida Panthers signed bench boss Paul Maurice to a multi-year contract extension, the club announced Tuesday.
Maurice led the Panthers to the Stanley Cup Final in his first season with the team in 2022-23 before guiding them to a championship in 2023-24.
Florida made the playoffs as a wild-card team in 2023 and upset the record-setting Boston Bruins in seven games in the first round. The Vegas Golden Knights ultimately defeated the Cats in five contests in the Cup Final.
The Panthers then won the Atlantic Division in 2024 and eventually prevailed in seven games over the Edmonton Oilers in the final for their first title this past June. Maurice is 5-0 all time in Game 7s in his nearly three decades as an NHL head coach.
His 29 postseason wins with the Panthers are the most in franchise history.
Maurice is coaching his 1,856th game Tuesday night. He first became an NHL bench boss with the Hartford Whalers in 1995-96. Maurice ranks second in the league all time in games coached behind Scotty Bowman's 2,141. Maurice sits fourth in wins, but he's also suffered the most losses (738) in NHL history.
The 57-year-old previously guided the Whalers, Carolina Hurricanes (in two separate stints), Toronto Maple Leafs, and the Winnipeg Jets.
Florida entered Tuesday's action with a 4-2-1 record in 2024-25.
