Crosby becomes 21st player in NHL history to score 600 goals

Sidney Crosby accomplished another major milestone by becoming the 21st player in NHL history to score 600 career goals.

The Pittsburgh Penguins captain reached the mark with a power-play tally against the Utah Hockey Club on Saturday night.

"To be able to do it at home and have another memory with so many others, family here, it's special. Happy to see it go in," Crosby said at intermission, per Sportsnet.

The future Hall of Famer and Alex Ovechkin (868) are the only active players with at least 600 goals under their belts. Nashville Predators forward Steven Stamkos is closest among the rest with 562 career tallies.

Crosby became the 10th player ever to hit 1,600 points earlier this season. He's in pursuit of his 20th point-per-game campaign, which would establish an NHL record.

The 37-year-old is showing no signs of slowing down, but he still has plenty of work to do to catch Mario Lemieux in the Penguins' record books.

Lemieux is the franchise's all-time leader in goals (690) and points (1,723), as well as assists (1,033), but Crosby came into Saturday just 17 helpers away from passing him.

Crosby is under contract through the 2026-27 campaign. The Penguins inked him to a two-year extension with an $8.7-million cap hit this past offseason. He's appeared in 1,295 career NHL games, all with Pittsburgh.

It was a night to forget for Pittsburgh despite Crosby's achievement, as Utah took the contest 6-1 thanks to four unanswered goals. The defeat dropped the Penguins to 7-12-4 on the season.
