Oilers call up Brandon Davidson from AHL affiliate

The Edmonton Oilers announced a minor transaction on Sunday afternoon. The club has called up left-side defenseman Brandon Davidson from the Oklahoma City Barons of the American Hockey League.

From the horses mouth:

Davidson is a two-way defenseman who was drafted in 2010 out of the WHL. He split time between the ECHL and AHL last season, and for what it's worth was clearly a level above the competition in the ECHL (he recorded more than a point-per game from the blue-line).

The Oilers decided to call up Davidson - who carries a $615,000 salary cap-hit but has never played a game at the NHL level - rather than 23-year-old veteran Philip Larsen. Larsen carries a $1.025 million dollar cap-hit, and has nearly 100 games of NHL experience.
