Stolarz deemed day-to-day due to injury
Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Anthony Stolarz is day-to-day with the injury he sustained during a win over the Anaheim Ducks on Thursday night, Leafs head coach Craig Berube said Friday, according to The Athletic's Jonas Siegel.
Berube added that "it was good news overall" for Stolarz, who departed after the first period and didn't return to the 3-2 victory with what the club called a lower-body ailment. It's not evident how Stolarz got hurt.
The veteran netminder, who'll turn 31 in January, has been outstanding in his first season with Toronto. He came into Friday leading the NHL in save percentage (.927) among those who've played more than four games in 2024-25. He ranked third in goals saved above expected (14.59) and second in goals saved above average (13.32), per Evolving-Hockey.
Stolarz is 9-5-2 with one shutout in 17 games this season.
Joseph Woll stopped 19 of 20 shots in relief Thursday night. The 26-year-old is 8-3-0 with a .921 save percentage and one shutout of his own over 11 appearances in 2024-25.
The Maple Leafs recalled goaltender Dennis Hildeby from their AHL affiliate, the Toronto Marlies, on an emergency basis Friday. The parent club will play a back-to-back this weekend with a road game against the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday night and a home date with the Buffalo Sabres on Sunday evening.
