The Calgary Flames don't want to trade defenseman Rasmus Andersson before the March 7 trade deadline and are confused about teams inquiring about his availability, TSN's Pierre LeBrun reported on "Insider Trading."

Andersson is under contract through next season at a bargain $4.5-million cap hit, and the Flames are hopeful to extend him once he becomes eligible in July, LeBrun noted.

Rumors about Andersson's availability have circulated throughout the season. The 28-year-old said last week he wants to remain in Calgary.

Andersson occupies the right side of Calgary's top defensive pairing and quarterbacks its top power-play unit. He's contributed 18 points in 42 games this season while logging 24:21 per contest.

The Flames drafted Andersson 53rd overall in 2015. He's played 497 regular-season games for the franchise across nine seasons.
