New Jersey Devils captain Nico Hischier is week-to-week with an undisclosed injury, the team announced Wednesday.
Hischier missed Monday's contest against the Philadelphia Flyers and was previously labeled day-to-day. The center sustained the injury on a cross-check in Saturday's overtime win over the Montreal Canadiens.
The Devils recently lost No. 1 goaltender Jacob Markstrom for four-to-six weeks because of a knee injury. New Jersey has five games remaining before a break from Feb. 9-22 because of the 4 Nations Face-Off.
Hischier ranks third on the Devils with 43 points in 51 games this season. He averages more than 20 minutes per contest and has won 55.5% of his faceoffs.
