Ersson replaces injured Markstrom for Sweden at 4 Nations
Sweden has tapped Philadelphia Flyers goalie Samuel Ersson to replace injured New Jersey Devils netminder Jacob Markstrom at the upcoming 4 Nations Face-Off, the national team announced Wednesday.
Markstrom sprained his MCL during a collision in his crease in last Wednesday's victory over the Boston Bruins. He needed assistance leaving the ice and was later given a four-to-six week recovery timeline, jeopardizing his availability for the tournament.
Ersson, meanwhile, owns an .893 save percentage, 2.77 goals against average, and 15-8-2 record on the campaign. He's been hot lately, picking up eight wins in his past 10 games while rocking a .925 clip and 1.96 GAA over that span.
The 25-year-old is joining a Swedish crease that already includes Ottawa Senators goalie Linus Ullmark - who is making progress in his recovery from a back injury - and Minnesota Wild backstop Filip Gustavsson.
Ersson has represented Sweden on the international stage before, including the 2019 World Junior Championship and the 2024 IIHF World Championship, where he won a bronze medal.
The 4 Nations Face-Off will run from Feb. 12-20 with games taking place in Montreal and Boston.
