Kraken place struggling Grubauer on waivers
The Seattle Kraken placed struggling goaltender Philipp Grubauer on waivers for the purpose of sending him to the AHL, the team announced Wednesday.
Grubauer owns a .866 save percentage, 3.83 goals against average, and a 5-15-1 record on the season. He's lost his last five games in regulation while recording a .819 clip and an abysmal 5.27 GAA.
The 33-year-old was pulled from his second-last start after allowing three goals on four shots to the Detroit Red Wings in the game's first six minutes.
Grubauer is under contract for two more seasons after this campaign and carries a cap hit of $5.9 million. His pact also includes a 10-team no-trade list.
Seattle signed him to a six-year, $35.4-million contract as an unrestricted free agent in July 2021.
Grubauer has posted a 54-76-12 record and a substandard .890 save percentage since joining the Kraken.
Joey Daccord, Grubauer's crease counterpart, has been excellent this season with a 17-12-2 record and a .917 clip.
Seattle entered Wednesday's action in seventh place in the Pacific Division with a 22-27-3 record.
