Karlsson: Sweden hasn't reached its standards at 4 Nations

Sweden defenseman Erik Karlsson says his country hasn't played to its capabilities through two games at the 4 Nations Face-Off.

Tre Kronor dropped it's second overtime game in a row Saturday, a 4-3 defeat to rival Finland.

"I don't think that we reached the standards that we have set on ourselves in that room," Karlsson told NHL.com's Tracey Myers. "Finland played a great game. They capitalized on a lot of loose pucks and created a lot of offense through their transition, and when they got their opportunities, they scored some goals. Good for them.

"They played a (good) game, and you know, overall, though, I don't think that we're too satisfied with the way that we went through the 60-plus minutes."

Sweden led 1-0 midway through the first period, but Finland answered with two goals before intermission. Karlsson put Sweden up 3-2 in the middle frame with his first tally of the tournament, but Finland quickly responded again.

Sweden, Finland, and Canada all have two points in the standings, but Canada will play its second game later Saturday against Team USA. The Swedes know their chances of advancing to the championship game are slim with a must-win contest against the United States in Boston on the horizon.

"It's not great," forward William Nylander said. "We have two overtime losses in two games so, I mean, just better regroup here and play the game against (the U.S.), go win and hopefully the scores go our way."
