Canucks sign Lankinen to 5-year, $22.5M extension

The Vancouver Canucks signed goaltender Kevin Lankinen to a five-year contract extension worth $4.5 million per season, the team announced Friday.

"Kevin has done a great job for us in net this season," general manager Patrik Allvin said. "Right from the start of the year, he has shown a strong desire to compete and a willingness to do whatever it takes to win hockey games. A good leader and teammate, we wouldn’t be in the position we are in right now without his strong play."

The Canucks inked Lankinen to a one-year, $875,000 contract in September after he went unsigned through the summer. Lankinen's been Vancouver's primary starter this season and recently represented Finland at the 4 Nations Face-Off. His new deal comes shortly after Thatcher Demko was labeled week-to-week with a lower-body injury.

Demko's under contract through 2026 with a $5-million cap hit. He didn't make his season debut until December due to the knee injury he suffered in last spring's playoffs.

Lankinen has a 19-8-7 record on the 2024-25 campaign with a .905 save percentage and four shutouts. He's also suited up for the Chicago Blackhawks and Nashville Predators during his five-year NHL tenure.

The Canucks hold the second wild-card spot in the Western Conference with 63 points.
