Rangers' Fox lands on IR, reportedly expected back before season's end
The New York Rangers placed defenseman Adam Fox on injured reserve Wednesday.
However, the club is optimistic he'll be back for the final weeks of the season, reports The Athletic's Arthur Staple.
Fox was holding his hand while he left the ice in the third period of a 5-1 win over the New York Islanders on Tuesday night. The Rangers later ruled him out for the rest of the game with what they called an upper-body injury.
The 27-year-old leads the Blueshirts with 43 assists and ranks second with 48 points across 58 games this season. Fox is pacing the team in average ice time at 23:14, leading the second-ranked K'Andre Miller by a minute and a half per night.
Miller also got hurt Tuesday night. He left in the second period, and the Rangers ruled him out for the remainder of the game before doing the same with Fox.
Fox won the Norris Trophy for the abbreviated 2021 campaign and finished in the top five in voting in each of the three subsequent seasons. He was the runner-up in 2022-23.
New York recalled rearguard Matthew Robertson from its AHL affiliate, the Hartford Wolf Pack, on Wednesday.
