Bruins' Marchand out vs. Wild with upper-body injury

Boston Bruins captain Brad Marchand didn't play in Sunday's clash against the Minnesota Wild because of an upper-body injury.

Marchand suffered the ailment after taking a big hit from Penguins defenseman Pierre-Olivier Joseph in the first period of Saturday's 3-2 victory over Pittsburgh. No penalty was called on the play.

The veteran forward crashed awkwardly, with his head making contact with the boards. He remained down for some time before being helped off the ice. Marchand was unable to return to the contest and saw just 2:18 of ice time before departing.

He traveled with the Bruins to Minnesota and will be re-evaluated Monday, according to The Boston Globe's Jim McBride. Georgii Merkulov took Marchand's place on a line with Elias Lindholm and Charlie Coyle versus the Wild.

Marchand ranks second on Boston with 21 goals and 47 points in 61 contests this season. This is his first time missing a regular-season game since 2022-23.

The Bruins entered Sunday's action just two points outside of a wild-card spot with a 28-25-8 record.
